About Mushkiki Miikan
The Mushkiki Miikan project—named from Anishinaabemowin, meaning “Medicine Path”—reflects a holistic and culturally grounded approach to supporting Indigenous learners on their journeys toward healing and medical practice, centering learners and acknowledging the diversity and complexity of pathways into medicine. This collaborative, province-wide effort among Ontario medical schools aims to improve access, provide culturally grounded support, and strengthen pathways into medicine for Indigenous learners.
This project is led by the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University (NOSM University), University of Toronto Temerty Faculty of Medicine (Temerty Medicine), Queen's University and Toronto Metropolitan University. The overarching goal is to increase access, provide tailored assistance, and foster a supportive environment for Indigenous learners throughout their medical education journey.
